Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 T. Crisco shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts – pecans or walnuts

Step 1

Sprinkle baking soda over dates. Pour boiling water over that. Mix shortening and sugar together in a separate bowl, add eggs, flour and then date mixture. Fill loaf pans half full.

Bake for 1 to 1¼ hours
