Ingredients

  • Cookies:

  • ½ cup shortening

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup shopped nuts

  • ¾ cup buttermilk

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1¾ cup flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • Frosting:

  • 4 squares unsweetened chocolate

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 4 cups confectioners sugar

  • pinch of salt

  • ½ cup milk

  • tsp. vanilla

Directions

1.) Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and chocolate thoroughly. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Measure flour before sifting. 2.) Stir together flour, soda, and salt. Blend in to first mixture. Mix in nuts. Chill at least 1 hour. Bake 8-10 mins and 400º 3.) FROSTING: Melt 4 squares chocolate and butter over low heat. Add confectioners sugar. Mix in a dash of salt, milk, and vanilla. *makes enough for a double batch*
