Ingredients

  • Double crust (See Idiot Proof Pie Crust Recipe)
  • 6 cups peeled and very thinly sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • cinnamon to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup caramel ice cream topping

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.
2. In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt.
3. In a large bowl, combine apples and sugar mixture. Toss lightly.
4. Spoon apple mixture into pie-crust lined pie pan. Dot with butter.
5. Cut the second pie crust into strips. Criss-cross the strips making a lattice design.
6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender. Remove pie from the oven. Immediately drizzle warmed caramel over the top of the pie. As an option, you may sprinkle chopped toasted pecans on top, as well.
