Ingredients

  • 1 cup of shortening (1/2 butter or margarine)
  • 1 cup of sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. of almond extract
  • 1 tsp. of vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups of gold medal flour
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. of red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup of crushed peppermint candy (candy canes)
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat to 375.
Mix shortening, sugar, egg and flavoring.
Mix flour and salt; stir into shortening mixture.
Divide dough in half. Blend food coloring into 1/2 of dough./

Roll strips of each color into candy canes. Place on ungreased backing sheet.

Bake 375 for 9 minutes. While warm, sprinkle candies and sugar on top
