Christmas Ornament Cookies

Ingredients
- flour 2 1/4 cups
- salt 1/4 teaspoon
- sugar 1 cup
- butter 3/4 cup softened
- egg 1 large
- vanilla extract 3/4 teaspoon
- almond extract 1 teaspoon
- Icing
- powdered sugar 2 cups
- milk 2 tablespoons or lemon juice
- food coloring

Preparation
Step 1
Place flour and salt in a medium bowl stir to combine. Set aside
In the mixing bowl beat sugar and butter with a electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg, vanilla and almond extract, gradually add flour mixture.
Beat at low speed until well blended.
Divide dough in half, cover and refrigerate 30 minutes or until firm.
Preheat oven to 350°
Working with one portion at a time, roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/8" - 1/4" thickness.
Cut dough into desired shapes with assorted floured cookie cutters.
Re-roll trimmings and cut out more cookies.
Place cutouts on a ungreased baking sheets.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
Let cookies stand on baking sheet 1 minute, remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare icing. Spoon icing into a small resealable plastic food storage bag.
Cut off a very tiny corner of the bag, pipe icing decoratively over cookies.
Decorate with candies as desired.
Let stand at room temperature 40 minutes or until set.
Makes 48 cookies
