Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef or bison
  • 1 15oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp snipped fresh cilantro
  • 2 10-12oz package refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (20 total)
  • Milk
  • Salsa for dipping

Preparation

Step 1

1. For filling, in alarge skillet, cook ground beef or bison until brown, drain off fat. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder,oregano and garlic powder. Bring to a boil;reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 5 minutes. Remove skillet from heat. Stir in cilantro
2.Preheat oven to 350. lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.;set aside. Separate biscuits, cut each in half horizontally. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a 4 inch circle. Place about 1 tbsp of filling onto half of each circle. brush edges with a little milk. Fold dough in half over filling and press edges with fork tines to seal. Place filled turnovers 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet; brush with milk
3. bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden. Immediately remove form baking sheet and cool slightly on wire rack. serve warm with salsa for dipping
NOTE: Freeze baked and cooled turnovers in a airtight container for up to i month.To reheat, preheat oven to 350. Bake frozen turnovers about 10 minutes or until heated through
