  • For the Donuts
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup orange pieces (about 6 cuties)
  • For the Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup white sanding sugar

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugars. Add the vanilla, egg, and yogurt and mix until creamy. Sift together the baking powder, baking soda, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add to the butter mixture alternately with the orange juice. Do not over mix. Stir in the orange pieces.
Spoon the batter into a large ziploc bag and cut the tip off one corner. Make sure it is large enough for the orange pieces to come out. Spray your donut pan with non stick spray. Fill the donut cavities about 2/3 full. Bake at 375* for 12 minutes. Cool in the pan for 2-3 minutes. Gently remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
Stir together the powdered sugar and 1/4 cup orange juice. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts in the glaze and sprinkle with the sanding sugar. Let set completely. Store in a loosely sealed container on the counter. Makes 18 donuts.
