Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup dark rum or brandy (Grand Marnier variation)
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla

Step 1
In heavy saucepn, stir together sugar, cornstarch, and salt; stir in water and bring to boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and stir in rum, butter, and nutmeg; simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Serve hot. Makes about 2 cups. Variation: Grand Marnier Sauce: Reduce sugar to 1/2 cup. Substitute Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur for the rum. Omit nutmeg and vanilla.
