  • 1 pound light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 2 3/4 cups King Arthur flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium saucepan, melt the margarine and the brown sugar.

Sift together the flour, baking powder and the salt.

lightly beat together the vanilla and the eggs.

Alternately, add the dry ingredients and the liquid ingredients until everything has been incorporated.

Spread the mixture evenly in a pre greased 13-by-9-inch baking pan.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove from oven and let cool for 15-20 minutes before cutting. Makes 12-15 congo bars.
