Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degree F.
In a saucepan, combine the half-and-half, brown sugar, and butter. Bring to a boil and simmer just until the sugar is dissolved. Whisk eggs and vanilla extract together. Add the hot mixture, whisking constantly, until well blended. Add bread cubes.
Brush 12 (2 oz) ramekins or baking cups with butter. Sprinkle with granulated sugar, brown sugar, or cinnamon sugar. Add raisins, diced apple, chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or jam to the cups (they don't have to all be the same).
Spoon the bread pudding mixture into the prepared ramekins or baking cups, then set them in a shallow, rimmed baking dish. Place on center oven rack and add about 1/4 to 1/2" of very hot water to the baking pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until puddings are set.
Cool, and loosen edge of each pudding with a knife and turn out onto serving plates. Top with Caramel Drizzle or lightly whipped cream.
