This was delicious, and so easy. I made it to go with several other Asian style dishes, and it was the first to disappear.
Russell cooked this for our dinner tonight. He said it was fast, and easy to make, and I reckon it was fantastic to eat! Such a yummy way to use mince and vermicelli. Thanks Sharon.
Based on the previous reviews I decided to use 2 tbsp oyster sauce, 2 tbsp hoisin sauce and 3 tbsp soy sauce. I also used ground chicken and chicken broth. The flavour was fantastic and it was super easy to throw together. Next time I will add some vegetables like cabbage, snowpeas.
I wasn't sure about this, since it has hoisin (which I'm not a huge fan of on its own) but it turned out somewhat reminiscent of sesame noodles. Instead of beef broth, I always use a bouillon sachet mixed in water (cheaper and portion controlled). We ate this with linguine instead of vermicelli. I also reduced the hoisin to 4 tablespoons with success. Omitted the green onion as well as we didn't have any.
This is my husband's absolute favorite meal. Definitely something different! I literally throw everything into the crockpot except for the noodles and let it cook all day. I don't even brown the onions or meat in sesame oil beforehand, I just throw it all in raw. Then serve it over noodles. I do up the soy sauce by 1 TBSP and I only use 2 TBSP of hoisin sauce like others suggested.
This one really surprised me! Followed the recipe exactly and it tasted amazing! It really kills the monotony of the same ol' ground beef dishes. It had the perfect Asian kick that I love. The ginger gave it an amazing flavor. This one was gobbled up fast! No leftovers on this dish! My picky 19 year old daughter even loved it...onions and all!!
Loved this!! Made with thin whole wheat spaghetti and extra crushed red peppers...we love spicy!!
I made a vegan version by subbing the hoisin for soy sauce and the beef for red beans. Good meal! Just the right amount of spicy, easy to prepare, and the beans stand in really well for the beef. Thanks for sharing!
As is, it's too spicy for me but my husband and son enjoy it. They gave it the 4 star rating.
Tasted pretty good. We didn't find it too sweet at all..... Thanks for posting :) Update - The more I make this the more I love it!!!
This was a nice concept of a meal, but it just didn't work for us. We LOVE spicy food, but even I felt that 1 tsp of crushed red pepper was too over the top. I used part Sesame Oil, part canola oil, but otherwise followed the recipe to a 't'. My lips were on fire and I couldn't taste anything but hot, and occasionally I tasted plain ground beef. But,Before I added the red pepper, I enjoyed the taste of the sauce. I guess I should have followed the cardinal rule: you can always add MORE red pepper, but you can never take it out!
Make sure you like hoisin sauce before making this recipe. Taste the sauce from the bottle first. I'm sure if you like hoisin, this is fantastic. However, if you find the taste of the sauce from the bottle is not your preference, this dish may not be for you.
This turned out really good! My daughter was in the mood for lo mein and we had some leftover cooked pork loin so we put it together with this sauce. Easy and flavorful. Thanks for posting.
I came across this recipe while trying to find something new for ground beef. I wasn't quite sure that my DH would like it, but he did. In fact, he loved it! Thanks for the post - I will definitely make this dish again!!
We have this at least once a month. It is an easy and yummy recipe that we love! We generally use whole wheat noodles and add in extra carrots with the onions for some extra nutritional value. Thanks for the great recipe!
Came across this recipe just looking for something different to do with ground beef....well actually antelope. This recipe is very easy and even tastier. Will definitely add to the rotation. I used stir fry noodles instead of spaghetti....turned out great!
Delicious and quick enough to make on weeknights! This has become a favorite in our house!
Very tasty and easy! I cut the hoisin (as mentioned by others) to 2 tb and upped the soy by about 1 tb. I also only used 1/4 tsp red pepper (I'm a spice weenie) and my husband adjusted his serving's heat using chili paste. We enjoyed it immensely, and will definitely make it again! It's a great recipe that can be adjusted in all sorts of ways according to the intended audience or the mood of the cook.
Good and quick!
Oh my, this was delicious! I thought the amount of soy, hoisin and sauce was just perfect, and not sweet at all. I used ground turkey and halved it, so that I would have room for some veggies (a red bell pepper and mushrooms, as other reviewers did). I also doubled the ginger, used 1/4 tsp of the crushed red pepper and just drizzled the sesame oil over at the end. It went perfectly with rice noodles, but I am sure it would also be great over rice. Thanks for a fabulous meal!
What an easy and tasty recipe! I served it over whole wheat spaghetti and a simple tossed salad with oil/vinegar and a little grated Parm, and it made for a delicious supper. I used a teaspoon of red chili flakes and that was just right for us heat-wise; I think, though, that I might back of the hoisin a little next time (add more soy?), especially since the DH has diabetes and should stay away from the sweet stuff. But I will certainly make it again.
We added fresh broccoli, mushrooms and about 1 Tablespoon of crushed red pepper. Very short time to cook and nice and filling!
Cheap to make and Oh so good and flavorful. I did serve over rice once I found out I didn't have the vermicelli noodles in the pantry - but the DH was disappointed there wasn't left overs as he felt the mince with the rice would be great in toasties and he wants to try it with the noodles and the big one was it had a spicy bite which even the DM devoured. After making though and the reason ours may have been so spicy was that I used dried crushed chillies [1 teaspoon] (home grown and I know they are hot) but that is also what we usually buy here in Australia (my awareness now is that crushed red peppers are dried red capsicum/bell peppers) but would recommend the chillie option if you like spice and hot.
This was very good, I did exactly what the recipe said. It was A LITTLE too spicy for our family's taste. So I think if I made it again I would put only 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper in there instead of the 1-1/2 that I did. But other than that I enjoyed it alot! Thanks so much for a nice dinner!
Wonderful flavor, quick and easy. I added 1/2 lb of ground pork as I didn't have a full pound of beef. I also added 1/4 c oyster sauce and an extra 1T soy to cut the sweetness of the hoisin. I deleted the red pepper to make it child friendly, and cut up a red bell pepper. Add some siracha and its an awesome dinner. Thanks!
WOW!! This recipe is great! I also had to substitute Oyster Sauce for the Hoisin Sauce because it is all I had on hand. No idea as to what extent this change made in the flavor, but you have a hit recipe, either way. Absolutely delicious and I will be making it again. Thanks for sharing!!
Made this the other night and it was a big hit in our home. I made some changes-did not have any hoisin, had to use oyster sauce instead. Also, I wasn't sure where to add the sesame oil, so after I drained and rinsed pasta, I tossed them in sesame oil. I will definitely be making again, but will be sure to buy hoisin for this.
Loved this recipe! Definitely will become a regular in our house. Used chicken broth instead of beef. I also threw in some red bell pepper with the onion. I will reduce the hoisin sauce next time, though, and probably add a little more soy. Thanks for a great recipe that uses an inexpensive cut of meat!
A fabulously different way to use ground beef! I added a little 5-spice powder because I have some and never get to use it, lol. I also used ground ginger, and only a tiny bit of red pepper because we are wimps. The dish was not much more time consuming than a hamburger helper, but much, much tastier! This will be a regular in our house. Thanks for sharing!
I made these noodles with out the beef and added a variety of vegetables, but left all the other ingredients the same, and the family loved them! cannot wait to make this recipe again!
Wow. This was delicious. I did sub the 2 Tbsps oyster, 2 Tbsps Hoisin and 3 Tbsps Soy as some suggested (I had the oyster sauce, so wanted to use it). My husband and I really loved this. I used 1 1/2 tsp of the red peppers--it was perfect for us, but we like spicy!! Great recipe, thanks for sharing!
I really liked this recipe. I had found it by searching for recipes using Hoisin sauce. I had always been curious about this sauce, so I just bought myself a jar, then searched for recipes. I cut back the amount of red pepper flakes for my first try, but I now know I would like more in than what I had put in. I called this "chinese spaghetti". I can't wait to have this dish again only using more red pepper flakes. I may even add a little more ginger for my tastes.
This recipe was AWSOME! I desglazed the pan with a little rice viniger once I drained the beef. I also added a tablespoon of sugar to make it a little on the sweet side. So it was Sweet, Sour, Spicy and Tangy all at once! EXCELLENT!!!
Fantastic recipe, cooked it for my family ,and let me tell you I never cooked anything in my life, this was delicious. I used a lot ,more Hoesin sauce plus extra garlic and ginger plus some Thai chilli and added some thinly spliced carrots for extra colour, I have never seen so many clean plates plus everyone had seconds.
Fantastic. Had a package of ground beef and couldn't think of how to use it. That problem's solved. I only put in 2 Tablespoons of the hoisin sauce, and it tasted fine. I wouldn't put any more in though. Very fast cook up. I julienned a small sweet pepper into it which was great. No leftovers in the house!
This recipe was DELICIOUS! Very quick and easy. I read many reviews about this recipe before making it, and became very hesitant about puting the hoisin sauce in. I decided to go ahead and try it anyway. I would never make it without! Most complained that it was too sweet, but I thought it was just PERFECT! The only thing I did differently was add a bag of frozen asian style vegetables (carrots, pea pods and mushrooms). It gave the pasta a LOT more color and added a nice flavor. I will definitely add this to the list of my favorites! Oh...and my husband LOVED IT!
A little sweet for my tastes... would maybe leave out the hoisin or at least decrease the amount.
YUMMMMM!!!! Even better the next day reheated. Will make again, soon.
This was so tasty. My family and I really enjoyed it. Since I didn't have hoisin sauce I used oyster sauce and it worked out great. Next time I will probably add some broccoli or peppers.
Great recipe! Easy to make and we loved it. I didn't have any hoisin sauce so I substituted oyster sauce. Very good results. Next time I might try the hoisin sauce. This recipe is a definite keeper. Thank you for sharing!
We loved this so much! I loved the combination sweet, hot, and salty! Served over Chinese noodles it was a huge success with us!
Five stars--no, ten! This is requested by my kids at least once every single week--probably the most requested recipe in my kitchen repertoire.
We liked but didn't love this recipe. However, I think that was my fault. I didn't use enough of the crushed pepper to couter act the sweetness of the hoisin sauce so it ended up being sweeter than I thought it would. Otherwise, it was pretty tasty and I'll try it agian with less hoisin sauce and more spice.
I can see this recipe quickly becoming one of my favorites! I used lite soy sauce to cut down on the sodium. I only used 3/4 tsp. of the dry crushed pepper, so as to not make it too hot for the kids, and I doubled the recipe for the 6 of us and there was about enough left over for a small lunch. Guess what I'll be having today :) This is going in a safe place so I know where it is at all times! Thank you for sharing it with us
I was reluctant to try this because it just didn't sound good. I was pleasantly surprised. My husband, who doesn't like spaghetti, called this the best spaghetti he's ever eaten. Thanks for something else to do with ground beef!
