Strawberry Trifle
By Addie
This pretty, colorful strawberry trifle is made with simple custard, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries, if you can find them. Traditional trifles are flavored with sherry or brandy but this one is liquor-free: perfect both for kids and grownups during the holidays or any other time.

Ingredients
- 2 quarts fresh strawberries

- 1 cup strawberry preserves
- 2 cups vanilla pudding, or custard
- Whipped cream, for garnish

Preparation
Step 1
Set aside 5 or 6 of the best looking strawberries. Hull and slice the remaining strawberries. Sprinkle with about a teaspoon or two of sugar and stir gently. Set aside to macerate for about 30 minutes so that the berries get juicy. If you have very sweet berries, use less sugar; tart berries, more sugar.
Slice the cake into pieces that will fit in the bottom of the trifle dish or glass bowl. The size and thickness will be determined by the kind of cake. Arrange the slices of cake or ladyfingers in the bottom of a 2- to 3-quart trifle dish or pretty glass bowl. Straight-sided bowls are preferred. Spread with a generous 1/2 cup of preserves and scatter half the sliced berries over the preserves. Spoon about half of the custard over the berries. Layer the rest of the cake over the custard. Spread the cake with the remaining preserves and berries. Top with the remaining custard. Garnish with whipped cream.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours and up to 12 hours. Garnish with more dollops of whipped cream, if you wish, and decorate with whole strawberries.

My Mother has made this for years. You can also have a variety of puddings not just vanilla . For those who don't like fruit, you can make it like I do for my Hubby and leave out the fruit. Its great either way.
I normally make an old English trifle from scratch. This is much easier and very
This trifle is so delicious and truly easy to make. My granddaughter, who is 6, made the trifle for Easter. I bought store bought angel food cake, prepared the pudding ahead of time, and she layered all the different ingredients in a glass bowl. The trifle got rave reviews and their were no leftovers.
Greatest! Great! for dessert. Easy to make. Quickly made by buying any yellow cake mix, strawberries, strawberry syrup and strawberry jam. (To save time use frozen strawberries!) Make it and let it sit at room temperature for one hour then add whipped cream! Reminds me of Grandma, she made the best stuff!
Elegant but very easy. Nice anytime you need something very special but are limied on time. You can also make it peach for a nice variation. Use peach preserves. Slice ripe peaches very thin and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons or more sugar. For a lighter pudding or custard fold in one cup cool whip or whipped cream.
I first had fruit trifle at a pot luck, an Irish nurse brought it. It not only tasted wonderful but was very attractive in the trifle serving dish. Very straight forward & simple.
Another way to make this trifle is with angle food cake and some blue berrys. It looks good and taste's great.
