Ingredients

  • ½ lb. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. water
  • 1 c. walnuts, chopped ( Susan uses pecans)
  • 12 small Hershey bars or chocolate pieces

Step 1

Spread nuts in bottom of 9x13 pan. Spread chocolate over nuts. Combine remaining ingredients in heavy pan, cook over high heat until brown and stringy. DO NOT BURN – STIR CONSTANTLY! (in one direction). At a nice carmel color, spread over top of chocolate (do not scrape the pan). Press down with buttered spoon. Cool, then break into pieces. ( I put the pan in the garage or fridge to cool it.) (If you double this recipe it makes a jelly roll pan, 15 1/2 x 10 ½.)
