- 3/4 tsp. Baking powder
- 1 tsp. Baking soda
- 1 egg
- 2/3 c plus 2 tbsp. Milk

Pour 2 inches of oil into large fry pan, electric fry pan or Dutch oven, heat to 350 degrees. Mix 1 egg and milk in small mixing bowl. Beat with egg beater. Set aside, measure flour and sugar into large mixing bowl, measure salt, baking powder, and baking soda into custard cup. Add to flour mixture, stir together with a fork. Gradually add the milk and egg mixture to the dry ingredients, beat constantly with wooden spoon until batter is smooth. Hold your finger over the bottom of a funnel, fill the funnel with batter. Holding the funnel as near the surface of fat as possible, remove finger and drop batter into deep fat. Using a circular movement from center outward to form a spiral cake about 3 inches in diameter. Fry until cakes are puffy and golden brown, turn only once. Use tongs to turn cake. Remove with a slotted spoon to absorb paper towels to drain. Sprinkle confectioner's sugar lightly over cakes with a sieve.
