Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup Japanese bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup green onion
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • Sauce-
  • 3 1/2 cups fresh-squeezed orange juice
  • 1/4 cup shallot, minced
  • 2 inches ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon red chile flakes
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest plus more to garnish
  • green onions to garnish

Preparation

Step 1

Combine all ingredients; form into 2-inch balls, sauté until brown on all sides, bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Set aside.

Combine first three ingredients in saucepan and reduce liquid by half. Strain, then add remaining ingredients. Toss meatballs in sauce. Serve over white rice with remaining sauce and green onions and orange zest for garnish.

Makes 4 servings.
