Safety - Bat Safety Tips (Bite NOT necessary to contract rabies!)

I just want to say how much I really love bats. They eat a lot of insects and do tremendous good in our world. However, should you come in contact with one it is IMPORTANT to know you may be at risk for rabies even if not bitten. KNOW THE RISK. Here are the recommended precautions.

- protect yourself and your pets, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare offers these tips:
- Do not touch a bat with your bare hands.
- to you have had contact with a bat or wake up to find a bat in your room, seek medical advice immediately.
- to vaccinate your dogs, cats, ferrets, and horses — even indoor pets could be exposed to rabies if a bat gets into a home.
- Bat-proof your home or cabin by plugging all holes in the siding and maintaining tight-fitting screens on windows.
- to to teach their children to avoid bats and to let an adult know if they find one.
