Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1-1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1-1/2 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Chunk butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds

Step 1

Cream together shortening and granulated sugar. Blend in egg and vanilla. Stir together cake flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Pour into greased 8" square pan. Bake in 375 degree oven about 30 minutes. Blend together brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and butter until crumbly. Spread over cake, sprinkle with almonds on top and bake 5 minutes more or until done.
