  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons licorice or anise extract
  • 1/2 teaspooon black paste food coloring

Preparation

Step 1

In a large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, butter and condensed milk. Stirring frequently, cook over medium heat to soft-ball stage or 234 to 243 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in extract and food coloring. 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper; coat with butter. Pour mixture into pan. Cool at least 4 hours to overnight. Remove from pan and cut into 1/2-inch squares; wrap pieces in waxed paper or paper candy wraps. Makes 2 1/2 pounds.
