Ingredients

  • 2 cups hot, strong, brewed coffee
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Step 1

Mix hot coffee with honey; cool until just warm. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Butter and flour a 12-cup silver-colored tube pan (NOT a dark non-stick type! Cake will burn easily in a dark pan!)

Combine next 9 ingredients and set aside.

In bowl with mixer at medium-high speed, beat sugar with margarine until smooth. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Beat in flour mixture alternately with coffee mixture, ending with flour mixture. Stir in walnuts.

Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake one hour or until sides of cake pull away from the sides of the pan, making sure NOT to open oven door.

Let cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cake finish cooling on rack.
