Ingredients
- 2 cups split peas
- 2 quarts liquid, at least 3/4 of it chicken broth
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 Tbsp dried thyme
- 1 Tbsp dried marjoram
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 ham steak, chopped

Step 1
Mix all ingredients. Be sure thyme and marjoram are powdered. Cover and cook slowly for about 1 hour or even longer. The mixture must cook until the peas are very soft.
Place a little more than half in a blender and liquefy. Return remaining soup in pan and heat through.
