French Dip Steak Sandwiches

I really do like dip and dunk sandwiches. They are a little high in fat so you would not want this every day but it is great as a change.

Ingredients

  • 4 (4-ounces) cube steak
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • garlic salt
  • butter for spreading
  • French bread, or Hamburger Buns

Preparation

Step 1

Melt shortening in skillet…
1. Pan fry steaks.
2. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Remove steaks.
4. Keep warm.

To make gravy…
1. Drain fat from skillet.
2. Pour water into skillet.
3. Heat to boiling, scraping brown particles from bottom of skillet.
4. Stir in bouillon.

Set oven to broil or 550°.

Place the buttered bread halves on ungreased baking sheet.
1. Sprinkle bread with garlic salt.
2. Place sheet on broiler rack about 4 inches from heat; toast until golden brown.

Place steaks between toasted bread slices; cut in half.

Serve gravy in individual small bowls. Each person can“dunk”his sandwich or pour gravy over it.
