Ingredients
- 1 c. sugar 1 c. water 1/8 t. cinnamon 1/8 t. nutmeg 2 T. butter 2 c. all-purpose flour 2 t. baking powder 1 t. salt 2/3 c. shortening 1/2 c. milk 3 apples, cored, peeled and sliced Garnish: sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, diced butter

Combine sugar, water and spices in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Add butter and set aside. Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl; cut in shortening. Add milk; stir until moistened. Roll out 1/4-inch thick on a lightly floured surface; cut into 4-inch squares. Divide apple slices among squares; sprinkle with sugar and spices and dot with butter. Bring all 4 corners together in center; pinch together. Arrange dumplings in a greased 13"x9" baking pan; pour sugar syrup over top. Sprinkle with additional sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Makes 4 servings.
