  • Ham bone or 1 lb smoked ham
  • 4 knackwurst

In a heavy kettle combine 2 cups quick cookin split peas, 4 cups water and chicken stock, 2 medium onions, 2 stalks of celery, and a ham bone or a 1 lb.piece of smoked ham. season the mixture with pepper and simmer it, covered, over low heat for about 2 hours. Romove the ham or th ham bone, cut the meat in fine strips and reserve it. Strain the strain the peas, stock, onions, and celery through a coarse sieve, or puree (that means throw it in there and turn it on)in a blender. Return to pan, stir in reserved ham and 3 or 4 knackwurst, sliced and simmer the soup 5 minutes more.
