Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 2 1/2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 2 2 cups flour
  • 2/3 2/3 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 spoon salt
  • 1 1/4 1 1/4 1/4 cups butter
  • 1 1 1 cup water
  • 3/4 3/4 3/4 cup +1 tablespoon buttermilk
  • 2 2 2 eggs beaten
  • 2 2 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 1 1/4 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • ICING
  • 6 6 6 tablespoons butter
  • 3 3 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 3/4 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 2 2 cups powder sugar
  • 1 1 1 cup chopped pecan

Preparation

Step 1

heat oven to 350*
grease a 9X13 pan
In a large mixing bowl, thoroughly mix sugar, flour, cocoa powder and salt
Melt butter in a saucepan and stir into sugar and flour mixture
place cup of water in saucepan and heat, stirring constantly, until mixture almost coms to a boil
add to ingredients in mixing bowl, stirring until well blended
stir in buttermilk, mix well
when mixture has cooled slightly stir Lin beaten eggs, mixing well
dd baking soda, cinnamon and vanilla
mix well
pour into greased baking pan
bake for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into middle of cake comes out clean
ICING
place butter, cocoa powder, and whole milk in a saucepan over low heat to melt butter
stir to throughly mix
remove from heat and add vanilla and powdered sugar, stirring until smooth
spread icing on top of cake while it is still warm
sprinkle pecans evenly over top of cake while still warm
