Ingredients

  • 1 1 2% qt milk (use 2% or whole - not skim)
  • 1 1 1 cup quick cook grits
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 1/8 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 3 3 3 cups (generous) shredded jarlsburg
  • 6 6 6 eggs - well beaten

Step 1

Bring milk to boil - just. Stir in grits with a whisk. reduce heat and stir until it becomes a thick mush (3-4 minutes) Remove from heat. Add butter inpeices, salt, cayenne. Add cheese and beat well with a wooden spoon. Beat in eggs.

Pour into well buttered, deep 2 1/2 quart casserole or shuffle dish. Bake uncovered, 1 hour and 10 minutes until puffed and golden brown.


To make ahead, prepare all ingredients, except eggs. Add eggs just before cooking.
