Ingredients

  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • For the cross on top
  • 1 cup powder sugar
  • 4 teaspoons milk or orange juice

Preparation

Step 1

Combine yeast and wminutes

Cool milk to lukewarm. Add to yeast mixture with sugar, butter and salt.

Add flour

Add eggs, raisins, orange peel and nutmeg

Knead about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl. Let rise until double. Punch down. Divide in half and let rest 5 minutes.

Grease 13 x 9" pan. Shape dough into rounds. Let rise. Brush top with beaten egg

Bake at 375 for 15 minutes

Mix powder sugar and milk or orange juice. Put in an icing have and make a cross on each cooled bun
