This is a South African dish that I got from a couple who lived there.
The first time I tasted it, I was hooked. I love unusual recipes, but I
want them to taste good and this one does.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 slice of bread
  • 2 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3 tsp apricot jam
  • 2 Tbs lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds (optional)
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • Servings: 6
  • Yield: 4-6

Step 1


1. Soak the bread in 1/2 cup of the milk for just a minute and squeeze dry, saving the milk with the other 1/2 cup. Mix it with the ground beef and all the rest of the ingredients except the remaining milk and eggs.

2. Brown the meat mixture until all pink is gone and spoon into a casserole dish. Beat the eggs with the remaining milk and pour over the meat.

3. Bake @ 350F until set. Serve over rice.
