Ingredients
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/4 lb bacon, chopped
- 1 head red cabbage, coarsely shredded
- 2 apples, quartered
- 3 cloves
- 2 bay leaves
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup red wine
- few drops of lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch

Step 1
Combine onion and bacon in saucepan. Cook 2-3 minutes. Cover bottom of pan with 1 inch water. Add cabbage and top with apples. Tie cloves and bay leaves in a cheesecloth bag and add to pan. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Add sugar and wine vinegar. Cover and simmer 30-40 minutes. Just before serving, remove spice bag and add wine and lemon juice to pan. Mix cornstarch with enough water to make a paste. Stir into pan liquid and heat until smooth and thickened.
