Ingredients
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1/8 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 1/2 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. luke warm water
- 1 egg - well beaten
- 3 3/4 cups sifted flour (about)

Step 1
Pour boiling water over shortening, sugar and salt. Add milk and cook to luke warm. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to cooled mixture with the beaten egg. Stir in 2 c ups flour. Beat. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Place in greased bowl. Grease waxed paper and a lid or cloth and chill until ready to use. Then roll dough to 1/" thickness. Cut into squares and fry a few at a time in hot deep fat (360 degrees). Brown on one side, turn and brown on other side. Do not let dough rise before frying. Drain on paper towel. Cover with powdered sugar. Makes about 30 doughnuts.
