Ingredients

  • 2 Cups coarse stale bread crumbs
  • 6 Cups sliced, pared, tart apples
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 t cinnamon
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 3 T Lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 T Butter
  • Cream or Ice Cream

Step 1

Put 1/3 of the crumbs into a buttered Casserole and cover with half the apples. Mix the Sugar, Cinnamon and salt together and sprinkle half the mixture over the apples. Add another layer of crumbs and another of apples and sprinkle with the rest of the sugar mixture. Top with crimbs, pour lemon juice and water over all and dot with the butter. Cover and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes. Serve hot or cold with or without cream.
