Ingredients
- 5 cookies each
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon each ground ginger, double-acting baking powder, and baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon each ground cloves and salt
- 2 tablespoons each margarine and firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons ice water
- 1 tablespoon confectioners sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon hot water
- I drop each red and green food coloring

Preparation
Step 1
Onto sheet of wax paper or a paper plate sift together flour cinnamon, ginger,. Baking powder, soda, cloves, and salt; set aside. In small bowl cream margarine with brown sugar; add vanilla and stir to combine. Alternately add sifted dry ingredients and ice water and mix to form dough (if mixture is dry and crumbly, add up to an additional teaspoon ice water to adjust consistency). Preheat oven to 375 degree f. Between 2 sheets of wax paper roll dough to about 1/8-inch thickness and, using a 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out cookies. Using a ½-inch round cookie cutter, cut out circle from center of each cookie.
