Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter

Step 1
Sift flour with baking powder onto waxed paper; set aside cream butter and shortening with electric mixer on moderates speed until light. Add sugars and cream until fluffy. Beat eggs in one at a time. Add peanut butter and beat on low speed until blended. Work in dry ingredients 1/3 at a time. Wrap dough and chill at least 2 hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking sheets. Shape dough in 1-inch balls. Place on baking sheets 3 inches apart. Wish a floured fork, flatten balls in a criss-cross pattern. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until softly firm. Cool on racks.
