Preparation
Step 1
Mix dry ingredients with butter (as when making pie crust). Add the 1½ cups of buttermilk. Let dough stand for about 15 minutes before rolling out on floured surface (our ladies use a pastry cloth).
The ladies who make our communion wafers use a clean mini-blind to measure and use a pattern cutter to score the dough. This makes the wafers uniform in size. They score the dough before transferring it to a cookie sheet.
For convection oven: Bake at 350 degrees for 5-6 minutes.
For regular oven: Bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned (approximately 10 minutes).
