RYE***Smoked Manhattan with Maple***SEE NOTES
By Unblond1
13/01/18 - This was just okay. I found it too sweet and Dan didn't find it sweet enough. The method should work for smoking any cocktail you want, however, and smoking the glasses is a nice touch.
I tried to soak the cherrywood chips in rye for a few hours but they were still too wet when I wanted to use them so that's a bust.

Preparation
Step 1
Soak smoking chips in enough whisky to dampen but not soak them. Dry for several hours in a strainer, if necessary.
Place rye whisky, vermouth, angostura bitters and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Cover the top with cling film.
Fill the smoking chamber with whisky soaked chips and aggressively smoke the liquid entrapping the smoke with the cling film.
Leave to stand for 5 minutes and then repeat the process 2-3 times stirring the liquid between each smoke.
Add two cups of ice to the cocktail shaker and shake until very cold.
Strain the Manhattan into glasses. Carefully place a teaspoon of laphroaig whisky onto the top of the cocktail and garnish each with 3 maraschino cherries.
for added theatre serve with a smoked glass by upturning a serving glass and filling with smoke. Turn the glass in front of friends and pour the drink in front of them.
