  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 8 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda (Listed as "baking soda on the tip of a knife)

Step 1

1. Mix in a bowl 1 cup of milk, eggs, salt, sugar and flour and stir thoroughly. Slowly add the second cup of milk, constantly stirring the mixture. At the end add teh baking soda and the oil.

2. Take a frying pan made of cast iron. Make it really hot. Put 1 tsp. of oil and pour one thrid of a ladle of the mixture and spread it over the pan. Thickness of a pancake should be no more than 1/10 of an inch. Fry on both sides. Serve them with sour cream of caviar or jam or honey or just butter.

Tips
On the ship they used a cut potato dipped in oil to grease the pan. Very effective method if you have a potato.
