Preparation
Step 1
1. To grind cranberries, first freeze, then grind in food processor. Combine ground cranberries with sugar and apple. Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add syrup. Chill until partially set. Add cranberry mixture, grape halves and nuts. Pour into individual molds. Chill till firm. Unmold on pineapple slice on a lettuce leaf. Pass Mayonnaise.
This is the original recipe. It may also be made in a large 9x13 pan and cut into individual serving sizes. Aunt Dorothy never served it with Mayo to my knowledge. She always mixed Sour Cream with a small amount of Honey and spread it over the chilled mold. I have been modifying the recipe to no one's notice. I add to a doubled recipe, a can of crushed pineapple 8 1/2 oz. size. I drain the juice and get the required pineapple syrup by adding 2 small 6 oz or so size cans of pineapple juice. Since the pineapple is incorporated into the salad it eliminates the need to serve the salad on the slices....so much easier! Perhaps not to Aunt Dorothy's standard, but what is?!
