Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or chicken
  • 1/2 lb hot italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper, any color
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp parsley
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup italian bread crumbs
  • 2 slices white breaed, crumbled
  • 1 TBSP milk
  • 8 oz shredded mozzarella chese
  • 1/4 cup parmsan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce plus 1/2 to 3/4 cup more for topping

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In small skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat and saute onion and bell pepper until tender. Remove from heat.

In a large bowl, add the meats, onion and pepers along with all the remaining ingredients, reserving 3/4 cup mozzarella for topping. Using your hands, combine everything reall y good. Once combined, place meat and shape the mixture into a baking dish of your chose. I usually use a cookie sheet, wrapped in tinfoil and sprayed really well with oil, meat shaped into a log down the center. Spoon marinara sauce over top.

Cook 50 minutes or until cooked through. Add remaining mozzarella cheese and sprinkle a little dried basil over top. Return to oven until cheese melts ~ about 10 minutes. Let rest, slice and serve.
