Maple Sweet Potato and Apple Gratin

First tried Thanksgiving 11/24/2017. Easy and delicious. I did not bake the sweet potatoes first, so this required a longer cooking time. About 1 hour.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds baked sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into slices. (if you do not bake the potatoes it will require a longer cooking time-1 hour). Can peel and slice potatoes ahead of time and they will not brown.
  • 2 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into slices
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Butter a gratin or baking dish

Decoratively arrange potatoes and apples in gratin or baking dish.Combine maple syrup, butter, and cinnamon to taste in saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring. Pour over potatoes and apples.

Bake 25 minutes (longer baking time if do not pre bake potatoes). After baking, put under broiler about 4 inches from heat for 1-2 minutes, or until lightly browned.
