Mother's Floating Island - from Nena

By

I can tell you that this is the most delicious dessert in the world - and it's not too fattening.

I remember something about putting the egg white portion on a decorative plate and filling the center with strawberries. Then getting the custard and pouring it over the egg whites, then heating the brown sugar until it is warm and drizzling that all over the egg whites and custard. Preparation

Step 1

1. Brown sugar (white) in a pan so that the sugar covers the bottom completely, brown at high heat. Shake occasionally. Cool and spread on inside of pan and cover all sides.

2. Beat egg whites until very stiff (forever). Gradually add other ingredients until all sugar is dissolved. Pour into pan and stick into oven inside broiler pan filled with hot water at 300 degrees for 45 minutes.

3. Custard:
Place ingredients except vanilla on top part of double boiler and mix at any speed for 15 seconds. Then place on range at middle temperature so that the water never boils.
