Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups small pieces pitted dates
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup (packed) brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick melted butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup dark corn syrup
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 2/3 cups walnut pieces
  • Pie crust
  • 1 egg whisked well for egg wash

Preheat 375
In 9" pie glass dish, fold and crimp pie crust. Pierce with fork and freeze for 10 minutes. Line with parchment, fill with pie weights and bake for 15 minutes. Remove parchment and pie weights and bake another 10 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes.

Stir dates and brandy to blend. Mix brown sugar, butter, nutmeg in bowl until paste forms. Whisk in corn syrup, then eggs. Add nuts and date mixture.

Brush piecrust with egg wash and pour filling into crust. Bake 15 minutes. Cover edges of crust with foil. Bake pie until filling is puffed and set in center, about 20 minutes. Let stay at room temperature
