Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 3 1/2 cup flour
- 1 lb dates chopped
- 1 lb candy orange slices cut in pieces
- 1 cup flaked coconut
- TOPPING
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 cups powered sugar

Preparation
Step 1
cream butter and sugar
add eggs and beat well
dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture
put flour in a large bowl add chopped dates, nuts and orange slices (stir to coat each piece
add flour and fruit mixture to creamed mixture
dough should stiffen, you can mix with your hands
put into a greased and floured 9X13 pan
bake in a 250 * oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours
topping
combine orange juice with powdered sugar and mix well
when cake is done and still HOT, spoon the juice mixture over the top
let cake stand overnight
it will be moist and a good item to freeze for later use
