Ingredients
- First Mixture:
- 1-1/4 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup butter - cut in as pastry
- Second Mixture (crust):
- Take out 2 cups of the First Mixture and add to it:
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 flaked coconut
- Mix well and press in to buttered 9 x 13 pan
- Third Mixture:
- Take the following and beat until smooth:
- 1 egg well beaten
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla

Step 1
Beat in the remainder of the First Mixture with the Third Mixture and spread this mixture over the Second Mixture (crust) pressed into the pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
While warm, put on the icing:
Here the directions get a little dicy: It looks like either 1/4 cup powder sugar or 3/4 cup powder sugar - I think I use somewhere in between, then add 1/2 tsp. vanilla and 1 to 2 tbsp. of half and half or whipping cream until I get it a nice, thin consistency and spread it on the bars. It is a thin layer of icing.
I usually refrigerate it because of the whipping cream in the icing.
