Stuffed Cabbage Rolls w/Tomato Sauce 0 Picture

Ingredients

  • 1 1 16oz 1/2 2 1/2 2 can tomato puree - coarsely chopped, 1/2 c chopped onions, 2 large minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 T brown sugar
  • 1/2 1/2 1-2 1/2 1/4 1 c rice (uncooked), 1-2 slices bacon - minced, 1/2 c minced onion, 1/4 tsp thyme, 1 egg, salt and pepper

Step 1

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir well until brown sugar dissolves. For the filling, in a bowl, combine filling ingredients and 1/4 cup of sauce. Assemblage: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Trim tough center of leaf. Place generous T of filling near the stem end of each leaf. Fold lower edges of leaf over filling, then fold inside and roll up from the stem end. Arrange seam-side down in casserole dish. Pour over 2 c sauce to cover cabbage rolls. Cover w/ foil and bake for 1 hour. Let it stand for 15 minutes before serving.
