Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 teaspoon lard or vegetable shorting
  • 1 package raisins
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together brown sugar, hot water, lard, raisins, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and boil for five minutes after the mixture begins to bubble
cool mixture, MAKE SURE MIXTURE IS COLD, add flour and 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in hot water (USE JUST A COUPLE TEASPOONS OF MIXTURE)
bake in a greased tube pan for about one hour
this is a heavy dark cake
