  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Butter Sauce:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.

Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 350 for 60-40 minutes until tootpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Invert cake onto wax paper.

Sauce:
Combine sugar butter and water in small saucepan. Cook over medium heat just until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat stir in extracts.

Poke holes in cake and drizzle sauce over cake. Cool and serve.
