Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup moist coconut
  • 1 cup slivered almonds (or other nuts)

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven 350*. Mix shortening and sugar thoroughly. Stir in flour. Press and flatten with hand to cover bottom of ungreased oblong pan. 13x9. Bake 10 minutes.

Topping: Mix eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Mix with flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in coconut and almonds.

Spread topping on crust. Return to oven and bake 25 minutes or more until golden brown. Cool slightly and cut into bars.
