  • TORTE
  • 9 eggs separated
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup black coffee
  • 2 1/4 cups cake flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups ground walnuts (loosely packed)
  • BUTTER ICING
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup scalded milk
  • 1 egg white- not beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1

TORTE

Mix egg yolks, sugar and coffee
Mix in combined flour and baking powder, vanilla and nuts.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
3 9 inch ungreased cake pans
Put wax paper on bottom of pans

Bake 325-350 degrees until springs back
( 17 minutes)

BUTTER ICING

Cream shortening
Add salt, sugar. egg white and vanilla

Beat until creamy one teaspoon at a time
( Do not attempt to put cake until cake completely cold )

You may not have to use all of milk, you can tell
