Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 2/3 cups sugar
- 1 can (16 oz) pumpkin
- 2/3 cup water
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2/3 cup chopped nuts
- 2/3 cup raisins (optional)

Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 loaf pans. Beat shortening and sugar thoroughly. Mix in pumpkin, water and eggs. Blend in flours, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and baking powder. Stir in nuts and raisins. Pour into pans. Bake until wooden pick inserted in centercomes out clean, about 70 minutes; cool slightly. Loosen sides of each loaf from pan; remove and cool on wire rack.
