Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheet with oil or line it with parchment paper. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, & spices in a large bowl. Using a pastry knife, fork, or food processor, cut butter into the dry ingredients and mix until mixture is crumbly and the butter is completely blended. Set the mixture aside. Whisk pumpkin and half-and-half together with the egg in a separate bowl. Cover the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients and form the dough into a ball. Spread some flour on a surface and pat the dough onto it, and then form a 1-inch thick rectangle measuring about 9 inches long and 3 inches wide. Make three equal portions of dough by using a large knife or a pizza cutter to slice through the width twice, making three equal portions. Cut the portions diagonally so you can have 6 triangular slices of dough. Place triangular slices on prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 14–16 minutes; scones should begin to turn light brown in colour. Place on wire rack to cool.
To prepare the plain glaze:
Mix powdered sugar with milk until mixture is smooth. Use a brush to paint the glaze over the top of each scone after they have cooled.
To prepare the spiced icing:
Combine all the ingredients for the spiced icing together. Drizzle them over each scone using either a squirt bottle or a whisk, but make sure to allow the icing to set at least an hour before serving.
