  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4-3 3/4 c flour
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Toppings as desired
  • 1 egg, beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water in big bowl. Stir in sugar, oil, salt, and 1 c flour. Beat until smooth.

Mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic (5 minutes). Place in greased bowl, flip over. Cover and let rise and double (30 minutes).

Puch dough down. Divide into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into 7 inch circle on lightly floured surface. Spread pizza sauce over half of each circle to within 1 inch of edge. Top with cheese and toppings. Carefully fold dough over filling. Pinch edges to seal securely.

Place calzones on greased cookie sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Let rest 15 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
